Hopeworks has begun a process of learning and implementing a 'Trauma Informed Approach' to how we do things here. The model we are using is called Sanctuary. It is an exciting time. I am finding that thinking about trauma and especially how safety is key for anyone who wants to create and sustain opportunity in their lives is crucial. What I like about Sanctuary is that they are concrete. For instance, there are seven key commitments that the framework is built around:
1. Nonviolence
2. Emotional Intelligence
3. Social Learning
4. Open Communication
5. Democracy
6. Social Responsibility
7. Growth and Change

What might ministries look like that expand their vision of Sanctuary beyond the facility for worship and into the fellowship hall and multi-purpose rooms and small group settings? How does a sense of sanctuary – of harbor from the storms of life – take shape through a lens like that?
