My wife, Cynthy, and I live in Santa Barbara, California. We moved, 15 years ago, from Los Angeles, where our three children and four grandchildren live. In June of 2016, we traveled with a pastor friend to Spain to walk the pilgrimage of Camino de Santiago. We only walked 80 miles, and it was a wonderful spiritual experience.
I graduated from UCLA in 1965 and was captain of the baseball team. But, I was the second-best player in my family. My twin brother played in the major leagues, for the Los Angeles Angels, when he was 19.
We attend First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, where ICTG's Executive Director's husband, Erik, is the Associate Pastor. I have been on the church's Finance Committee for 10 years and I am now the Treasurer. I hope to help ICTG become financially sustainable.
One day, a few years ago, I was having lunch with some friends and was told that their Pastor's wife had committed suicide. I knew, only peripherally of ICTG's work, but suggested they call ICTG. They did call. They were in deep need of someone who could professionally tell them what to do. They were very thankful that such a resource was available to them in a time of crisis. Today they have moved forward in a very positive way.
Since joining the ICTG Board in 2016, I have become aware of two student suicides. One in a youth ministry and the other in a local school. I was impressed by ICTG's response and surprised that there was a specific protocol that could be used. ICTG was so confident that they could help.
I believe that any response to trauma needs to be rooted in the teachings of Christ. Because of this, ICTG is a very necessary institution. There is a growing need for ICTG's expertise.
